WIENIAWSKI, MATEUSZ BORKOWSKI

Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880) - a Polish composer and world-renowned violinist, known as the "Prince of the Violin", the "King of the G String", the "Magician of the Violin," and the "last virtuoso of Romanticism." An artist who today might well be called a celebrity in the best sense of the word. Though his output was not extensive, its significance within the global violin repertoire is fundamental. The vivid biography and remarkable twists of fate of this fascinating figure are recounted by Mateusz Borkowski, who guides the reader through the virtuoso's many tours, performed with an intensity comparable to that of today's pop and rock stars. A virtuoso endowed both with a fiery temperament and deep lyricism. The famous International Violin Competition in Poznań bears his name, yet while many have heard of the competition, few know the story of its patron. All the more striking, then, that this biography reads like a compelling film script - utterly captivating.
